CDL Study Guide
Wet Brakes CDL Guide
Wet brake questions test what happens after rain, deep water, or flooded roadways make the brakes respond unevenly.
Water Exposure
Rain and deep water can make brakes work differently than normal.
Uneven Braking
The vehicle may pull, wheels may lock, or stopping power may feel weak.
Safe Recovery
Test and dry brakes carefully after water exposure before returning to normal speed.
What to remember for the CDL exam
- Wet brakes can cause weak braking.
- Wet brakes can cause wheel lockups or pulling to one side.
- With trailers, wet brakes can increase jackknife risk.
- If water cannot be avoided, test the brakes safely afterward and dry them with light pressure when appropriate.
